If you’ve recently purchased a netbook with Windows 7 Starter, you must also be aware that several features that are available with the full version of Windows 7 are not available in the Starter version.
If you’ve just realized, you might wonder whether you will have to upgrade your operating system in order to get the most out of it.
It isn’t necessary if you take these suggestions into account in order to get the most out of Windows 7 Starter, albeit with a few additions:
#1: Switch to the Windows Classic Theme
You can switch back to the Windows Classic Theme and even alter the color of the taskbar, start menu and desktop to one of your choice. You don’t have to stick with the Windows 7 Desktop theme.
#2: Install Oceanis or Personalization Panel
One of the features that Windows 7 Starter does not have is to change your wallpaper. Either you upgrade to Windows 7 or install software such as Oceanis or Personalization Panel. That should do the trick.
#3: Install Microsoft Shared View or Team Viewer
Windows 7 has Remote Desktop Connection which allows you to connect from one computer to another and isn’t available in Windows 7 Starter. So, in order to compensate for this, you can install Microsoft Shared View or Team Viewer. You’ll be able to transfer files easily.
#4: Turn off unused Programs
While there are some features that aren’t available with Windows 7 Starter, there are others that are available that you might not use. One example of this is User Account Control which makes more sense to turn off if you are the only one using the computer. This will only ensure that you system runs much faster.
